Hosting Company Switch
Feb 8th, 2003 by Nate
Not many of you will notice, but this weekend I switched the hosting company of Suver.com from Yahoo Web Hosting to Apollo Web Hosting. The DNS entry switched over at about 7:30 pm saturday night. The only major difference for now is the speed that PHP scripts execute against MySQL. On Yahoos! servers, they were running anywhere between 30-45 times longer than they should have taken to run. On Apollo, they run as fast as I would expect, maybe faster. Yahoo technical support was arrogant and completely not helpful. So I switched. Apollo actually has more features, and my plan costs 5 bucks a month less.
A no-brainer decision. The transition was incredibly smooth, I was able to script my entire weblog and execute the script in the new database, and the rest of the stuff I moved with FTP. Some links may be broken (like anims), and you may notice that the suver.com IP address will occasionally show up in the address bar. These problems will soon be corrected.
