I think extreme cold makes the hybrid suck. This morning, my average mpg coming into work was about 35. Now, keep in mind, this is probably about a billion times better than any other car, ESPECIALLY in this weather, but still not close to 50. When the engine is nice and warmed up, and the battery is mostly charged, the mileage definitely starts to get much better. Only problem is, by the time the engine is warmed up I’m already at work (only a 10 mile commute). I can’t wait until it starts getting really warm out, I anticipate the mileage to get much better. I read that mpg drops about 2% for every 10 degrees colder it gets. I hope we have a warm spring, these 0 degree morning are really starting to piss me off.
